Stan’s believes it’s smarter to assess your building with a ‘Whole House’ approach. That simply means we combine super efficient, state-of-the-art air conditioning, furnace, heat pump, mini-split, and geothermal systems with energy improvements like duct repair, insulation, solar shading, and air infiltration as needed in order to make your building both comfortable and cost efficient. The solutions we offer are fully customized to meet your home or building’s specific needs, and our estimates are at no cost to you.
Windows alone can account for about 50% of the heat inside of a building.
While walls have an insulation value of 11-13, and attics are usually rated 19-38, windows have only a 1 or 2 rating. When sunlight passes through a window, this light is converted to heat, which is then trapped inside the building. Think about your car sitting in the summer sun. Its indoor temperatures will rise dramatically over time because of this process, more commonly known as the greenhouse effect.
Replacing or updating your windows themselves will be expensive, and even with the most modern window technology, it is not a cost-effective option.
Shading windows with solar screens is simply the most cost effective measure that a building owner can take against high energy bills and an uncomfortable interior environment. Solar screens also protect your fabrics and furnishings against the damaging effects of the sun’s ultraviolet radiation. A solar screen is basically an insect screen that covers the entire window, whose weave is dense enough to absorb much of the sun’s heat (approximately 70%) before it enters your building.
