Austin Energy Cash Incentives

  • Appliance Efficiency Program (up to $600): This program offers cash incentives for replacing or installing new air conditioning and heating systems with high efficiency systems on existing homes or businesses.  Qualifying equipment must meet the minimum efficiency levels as established by Austin Energy.  Rebates range from $50 to $600.  Visit Austin Energy’s website for more details.
  • Home Performance with Energy Star Cash Program (up to $1575)*: Requirements for participation in the cash rebate program are:  1.) any window which receives more than one hour of summer sun must be shaded by a solar screen, reflective window film, or replaced with high performance windows;  2.) the air distribution system (ductwork) must be in good condition and sealed below 10% leakage;  3.) attic walls adjacent to living areas must be insulated and secured, openings through and between floors must be blocked off, and the attic floor insulation must be upgraded to R38 if the existing insulation is below R22;  4.) exterior doors must be weather stripped and plumbing penetrations sealed.  Under the cash program each of these items qualify for an incentive.  If all of these items are performed in conjunction with replacing an air conditioning and heating system, the air conditioning and heating rebates range from $350 to $600 and a bonus rebate of up to $500 is available.  Note: until 31 September 2011, a promotional bonus is available up to $200.  Visit Austin Energy’s website for more details.
  • Home Performance with Energy Star Loan Program (up to $11,000, 0% 3 year-6% 10 year interest)*: Requirements for participation in the loan program are:  1.) any window which receives more than one hour of summer sun must be shaded by a solar screen, reflective window film, or replaced with high performance windows;  2.) the air distribution system (ductwork) must be in good condition and sealed below 10% leakage;  3.) attic walls adjacent to living areas must be insulated and secured, openings through and between floors must be blocked off, and the attic floor insulation must be upgraded to R38 if the existing insulation is below R22;  4.) exterior doors must be weather stripped and plumbing penetrations sealed.  You can replace your air conditioning and heating system under this program as well, if all the above measures are implemented.  Visit Austin Energy’s website for more details.
  • Free Weatherization Program: Low-income households, the disabled, and the elderly may qualify for free installation of attic insulation, minor duct repair and sealing, caulking around plumbing penetration, weather stripping around doors, and installation of solar screens.  Visit Austin Energy’s website for more details.

*Participation in these programs is mutually exclusive.  You cannot participate in both programs simultaneously.
